Tata Motors, one of India’s leading automobile manufacturers, has forged a strategic alliance with the Leadership Group for Industry Transition (LeadIT), a global coalition initiated by the governments of Sweden and India during the UN Climate Action Summit in September 2019.
By joining LeadIT, Tata Motors aims to leverage international best practices, shape policy decisions, and collaborate with other members to bolster climate action initiatives, thus expediting the transition towards achieving net-zero emissions.
Tata Motors’ Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer, SJR Kutty, affirmed the company’s commitment to sustainability, stating, “Our pledge to attain net-zero emissions across our Passenger Vehicles (PV) business by 2040, and our Commercial Vehicles (CV) business by 2045, is a testament to our commitment to a greener future.” He further emphasized that partnering with LeadIT would propel Tata Motors closer to these ambitious objectives, facilitating a sustainable transformation journey.
Romina Pourmokhtari, Sweden’s Minister for Climate and the Environment and Co-Chair of LeadIT, hailed Tata Motors’ membership as a significant stride towards achieving net-zero emissions, especially from a prominent global manufacturer in the automotive supply chain. “Demand signals are crucial for the transformation of our industry. Fostering dialogues and strengthening partnerships in areas where transition challenges need to be addressed is core to achieving reduced climate emissions,” Pourmokhtari remarked.
The collaboration between Tata Motors and LeadIT underscores the critical role of industry alliances in driving environmental sustainability and underscores Tata Motors’ commitment to playing a pivotal role in combating climate change through innovative and eco-friendly practices.
