Tata Motors, the renowned Indian automaker, has raced to a new pinnacle, reaching a record high of Rs 942, marking a 7% surge on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). The surge follows the announcement of the company’s robust third-quarter results, where the net profit surpassed analyst estimates, skyrocketing by an impressive 137% year-on-year (Y-o-Y) to Rs 7,025 crore.
Tata Motors’ stellar performance in the December quarter can be attributed to favorable volumes, reduced costs in component sourcing, and an improvement in semiconductor chip supplies. The company’s revenue from operations witnessed a substantial 25% Y-o-Y increase.
Shares of Tata Motors DVR also witnessed an upswing, hitting a new high of Rs 636.50, and experiencing a notable 9% rally on the BSE. In comparison, the S&P BSE Sensex saw a marginal decline of 0.08%, settling at 72,028 at 09:20 am.

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), a crucial business segment for Tata Motors, reported record-breaking revenue of 7.4 billion pounds in the third quarter. This quarter also marked the highest profit before tax since Q4FY17, standing at 627 million pounds. JLR’s free cash flow reached 626 million pounds in Q3FY24 and 1.4 billion pounds for the year to date. Additionally, net debt reduced to 1.6 billion pounds.
The management at Tata Motors remains optimistic about all three automotive segments, including JLR, Commercial Vehicles (CV), and Passenger Vehicles (PV). They expect a further improvement in performance in Q4, attributing it to seasonality, new launches, and enhanced supplies at JLR.
Furthermore, Tata Motors achieved a net debt reduction of Rs 9,500 crore in Q3 and expressed confidence in achieving their deleveraging plans. JLR is on track to meet profitability and cashflow targets, with an expected EBIT margin of over 8% for FY24.
Market analysts and rating agencies like CRISIL are optimistic about Tata Motors’ performance, emphasizing JLR’s strong order backlog, healthy demand, and premium positioning, which may limit the impact on volumes even in a global economic slowdown.
Motilal Oswal Financial Services predicts a healthy recovery for Tata Motors, particularly for JLR, as supply-side issues ease. The brokerage firm anticipates the EBIT margin to reach approximately 9.9% by FY26, aligning with the management’s guidance.
Tata Motors, as part of the Tata group, continues to showcase financial strength, robust performance, and strategic initiatives that position it as a formidable force in the automotive industry.
