In a significant move towards fostering innovation and social impact in India, Suzuki Motor Corporation has announced the launch of ‘Next Bharat Ventures’, a dedicated Rs 340 crore fund aimed at supporting startups in Tier-II and below geographies. This initiative marks Suzuki’s first investment fund in India, designed to nurture entrepreneurs who create value in sectors crucial to rural and semi-urban development.

The fund, titled ‘Next Bharat Ventures’, focuses on bolstering social impact startups in key domains such as agriculture, financial inclusion, rural supply chains, and rural mobility. Speaking to PTI, Vipul Nath Jindal, CEO and MD of Next Bharat, highlighted the fund’s strategy to invest in growth-stage impact firms and early-stage entrepreneurs through a residency programme. This programme will provide selected startups with a four-month hybrid residency, offering mentorship, access to resources, and networking opportunities essential for scaling their ventures.

Jindal emphasized, “The core mission of Next Bharat is to empower impact entrepreneurs driven by Cause, Contribution, and Community. By focusing on Tier-II and 3 cities, we aim to stimulate economic development and foster innovation tailored to the unique challenges faced by these regions.”

The residency programme culminates in equity investments ranging from Rs 1 crore to Rs 5 crore for participating startups, aimed at propelling their growth and sustainability. This initiative underscores Suzuki’s commitment to empowering ‘India’s next billion’ by extending beyond traditional mobility solutions to engage with underserved communities and contribute to India’s future economic landscape.

Toshihiro Suzuki, President and CEO of Suzuki Motor Corporation, affirmed the company’s vision, stating, “India’s vast potential, with a population nearing 1.4 billion, inspires us to expand our impact beyond conventional business boundaries. Through ‘Next Bharat’, we envision connecting with the ‘Next Billion’ people of India, catalyzing their socio-economic progress and integrating our efforts into India’s evolving narrative.”

The launch of ‘Next Bharat Ventures’ represents a pivotal step towards leveraging Suzuki’s expertise and resources to drive inclusive growth and innovation across India’s diverse landscapes. As the fund begins operations, it is poised to not only nurture entrepreneurial talent but also contribute significantly to India’s journey towards sustainable development and social transformation.
