Section 144 Imposed in Noida Ahead of Key Events: Restrictions in Place from January 21 to 26

Noida and Greater Noida are set to witness the enforcement of Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) from January 21 to 26, announced the Gautam Buddh Nagar police on Saturday. This move is in anticipation of the consecration ceremony at the Lord Ram temple in Ayodhya on January 22 and the Republic Day celebrations on January 26.

The restrictions outlined under CrPC Section 144 encompass a prohibition on unlawful assemblies involving five or more individuals, unauthorized processions, and demonstrations, among other measures, as detailed in an order issued by Additional DCP (law and order) Hridesh Katheriya.

“The live telecast of Shri Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha is scheduled on January 22 along with Diwali programme. Then the birth anniversary of late Hazrat Ali on January 25 and Republic Day celebration on January 26,” explained Katheriya. He further noted, “Along with these, some protests and demonstrations are proposed by various organisations and farmers from time to time.”

Given the upcoming events and potential protests, the police are taking preventive measures to ensure the maintenance of peace and harmony in the region. Katheriya emphasized the need to prevent mischievous elements from engaging in activities that could disrupt authorized events and create an unfavorable environment.

“Considering the seriousness and urgency of the situation and due to the paucity of time, it is not possible to provide an opportunity for a hearing to any other party; hence, this order is being passed ex-parte,” stated the Additional DCP in the order.

The imposition of Section 144 CrPC is slated to be effective for six days, from January 21 to 26. During this period, authorities will be vigilant to maintain law and order, ensuring the safety and smooth conduct of scheduled events amidst potential gatherings and demonstrations.
