The Indian rupee opened 4 paise lower on Monday at 84.2848 against the US dollar, slipping slightly from its previous close of 84.2475. Currency market watchers attributed the dip to a minor uptick in the US dollar index, reflecting a stronger greenback globally.
Despite today’s softer opening, the rupee has shown notable resilience in recent sessions. Analysts suggest that growing optimism around a potential US-India trade agreement is helping support the local currency, boosting investor confidence.
Adding to the positive sentiment, crude oil prices dipped after OPEC+ announced a decision to ramp up oil production over the weekend. The move eased global supply concerns and provided welcome relief to oil-importing countries like India.
“For an oil-dependent nation like India, the drop in crude prices reduces external pressure on the rupee,” said Amit Pabari, Managing Director of CR Forex Advisors. “This development, along with ongoing trade deal optimism, is likely to help stabilize the currency in the near term.”
As global markets continue to react to geopolitical developments and economic data, all eyes remain on how the rupee navigates the balance between a firm dollar and improving domestic fundamentals.
