Rolls-Royce, the epitome of luxury in the automotive world, has introduced its latest masterpiece, the Rolls-Royce Spectre, to the Indian market. The unveiling comes amid optimistic expectations for the growth of ultra-luxury car sales in India. According to Yadur Kapur, CEO of Select Cars, the principal dealer for luxury brands like Rolls-Royce, Ferrari, and Lamborghini, the expansion of the Indian economy is likely to attract a new wave of customers to these exclusive models.
The Rolls-Royce Spectre, the company’s first fully electric luxury sedan, was presented with a starting price of Rs 7.5 crore (ex-showroom) during the launch event. Kapur expressed confidence in the luxury car market’s potential in India, citing the country’s robust economic growth, expected to be around 6.5% this year, making India the third-largest car market globally.
Kapur, at the press conference, remarked, “India is now a USD 3.5 trillion economy, and we are growing. The country is now the third-largest car market globally, so the demand for luxury cars is only going to increase going ahead.” He emphasized that Rolls-Royce caters to a diverse clientele, ranging from business leaders to actors and professionals across various fields.
A noteworthy trend mentioned by Kapur is the decreasing average age of Rolls-Royce customers, a shift observed post-COVID. The average age is now approximately 35 years, indicating a growing interest in luxury automobiles among younger demographics.
Rolls-Royce currently operates three showrooms in India located in Delhi, Chennai, and Hyderabad. Kapur highlighted that the cars are imported from the UK, and the waiting period typically ranges between 6-8 months, depending on the model and level of personalization. However, for the newly introduced Spectre, the waiting period has surged to up to one year due to strong orders.
Kapur shared positive sales insights, stating, “When it comes to Rolls-Royce, we have doubled our sales in 2023 as compared with 2022. We have a very strong order pipeline for the year.” The Rolls-Royce Spectre boasts an impressive range of over 530 kilometers and can be fully charged in around five hours. Looking ahead, Rolls-Royce has committed to making its entire product portfolio fully electric by the end of 2030.
As the luxury automaker expands its electric offerings, the arrival of the Rolls-Royce Spectre could mark a new era for opulent electric vehicles in India, reflecting the evolving tastes and preferences of the country’s discerning consumers.
