In a significant push for the development landscape of Assam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for projects worth nearly Rs 11,600 crore during a public meeting at the Veterinary College Playground in Khanapara.

The event, scheduled to commence at 11.30 am, will witness the unveiling of key projects contributing to the infrastructural, healthcare, and sporting sectors. Among the major initiatives are the Kamakhya temple corridor (Rs 498 crore), a six-lane road from the new airport terminal (Rs 358 crore) in Guwahati, and the upgradation of Nehru Stadium to FIFA standards (Rs 831 crore). A new sports complex in Chandrapur (Rs 300 crore) is also part of the comprehensive development plan.

A noteworthy highlight of the day is the commencement of the second phase of Asom Mala roads, involving the construction of 43 new roads and 38 concrete bridges. This extensive road infrastructure development comes with a total investment of Rs 3,444 crore.

In the healthcare sector, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for an integrated new building of the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, funded at Rs 3,250 crore. Additionally, foundation stones will be laid for the proposed Karimganj Medical College and Hospital (Rs 578 crore) and the Unity Mall in Guwahati (Rs 297 crore).

The Prime Minister is also slated to inaugurate the newly constructed four-lane road from Biswanath Chariali to Gohpur (Rs 1,451 crore) and another four-lane road from Dolabari to Jamuguri (Rs 592 crore).

“In total, the prime minister will lay foundation stones or inaugurate projects worth Rs 11,599 crore, funded by both state government and the Centre,” stated Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

This comprehensive initiative reflects the commitment of the central and state governments to fostering inclusive growth and development in the region. Prime Minister Modi’s visit underscores the importance of infrastructure, healthcare, and connectivity in propelling Assam toward a brighter future. After the program, PM Modi is expected to return on Sunday afternoon, marking the culmination of a significant chapter in Assam’s developmental journey.
