Nissan Motor Corporation is gearing up for a major overhaul, announcing its ambitious plan to launch 30 new models over the next three years. The Japanese automaker aims to revitalize its product lineup, boost global sales volumes, and enhance profitability amidst a rapidly evolving automotive landscape.
With the automotive industry undergoing significant transformation driven by technological advancements and shifting consumer preferences, Nissan is positioning itself to stay ahead of the curve. As part of its updated medium-term business plan, the company aims to raise its global sales by 1 million vehicles while focusing on cost reduction measures to improve profitability.
One of the key pillars of Nissan’s strategy is electrification. Despite being a pioneer in electric vehicles (EVs) with its all-battery-powered Leaf model, Nissan faces stiff competition from rivals like Tesla and BYD, particularly in key markets like China. To regain its competitive edge, Nissan plans to accelerate its electrification efforts, with a target for electrified vehicles to comprise 60% of its global sales by the end of the decade.
Of the 30 new models slated for launch, 16 will be electrified, including all-battery-powered vehicles and plug-in hybrids. Nissan aims to reduce the cost of its next-generation EVs by 30% to make them more accessible and competitive with traditional internal combustion engine models by 2030.
In addition to its electrification push, Nissan is focusing on strengthening its presence in key markets worldwide. In the U.S. and Canada, the company plans to introduce seven new models and revamp 78% of its passenger vehicle lineup under the Nissan brand. It also has ambitious plans for the Chinese market, where it will roll out eight new energy vehicles, including four Nissan brand models, and six new models in Europe.
Furthermore, Nissan is exploring new partnerships in the U.S. and Japan while leveraging its existing alliance with Renault and Mitsubishi Motors to drive collaboration and synergies in key regions such as Europe, India, and Latin America.
One of the highlights of Nissan’s roadmap is the introduction of a new electric 3-row SUV by the end of the financial year to March 2029. This model promises a 50% reduction in quick charging time and a 50% increase in energy density compared to the Ariya model, showcasing Nissan’s commitment to innovation and technological advancement.
As Nissan embarks on this ambitious journey of transformation and growth, the automotive industry will be closely watching its progress, eager to see how the company navigates the challenges and opportunities of an increasingly electrified and interconnected world.
