Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced on Friday that the Navi Mumbai International Airport is poised to commence operations in November or December of this year. He further disclosed plans for multiple airports in at least 10 cities across India within the next 10 to 15 years.

Speaking at the inauguration of the AAR-Indamer Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at the MIHAN SEZ in Nagpur, Scindia expressed the significance of connecting Mumbai to Navi Mumbai, emphasizing the realization of a long-awaited dream. The announcement coincided with the upcoming inauguration of the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“The Navi Mumbai International Airport will start its operations in November or December this year. This airport’s first flight will land in November or December. The airport will pave the way for the big development of Navi Mumbai,” stated the Civil Aviation Minister.

Highlighting the country’s anticipation over the past 60 years, Scindia acknowledged the transformative impact of connecting Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. He also projected a future where 10 cities in India would boast two airports each, showcasing the government’s commitment to enhancing air connectivity.

As part of the ongoing developments, Scindia announced his plans to inspect airports in Kolhapur, Pune, and Navi Mumbai later in the day and on Saturday.

The AAR-Indamer MRO facility, inaugurated by Scindia, is a joint venture between AAR, a major MRO in the USA, and Indamer Technics Private Limited. The state-of-the-art facility aims to provide maintenance services to aircraft fleets operating in India and the surrounding region. AAR-Indamer’s greenfield facility is a result of collaborative efforts between AAR Corp and Indamer Aviation, the oldest and largest general aviation MRO in India.

As Navi Mumbai eagerly awaits the commencement of its international airport, these developments underscore the government’s commitment to bolstering air infrastructure and connectivity across the nation.
