Mother Dairy, a prominent milk supplier in the Delhi-NCR region, is set to embark on a significant expansion journey with a planned investment of Rs 750 crore to establish two new processing plants for dairy and fruits & vegetables. This strategic move aims to meet the surging consumer demand while enhancing distribution capabilities.
According to Manish Bandlish, Managing Director of Mother Dairy Fruits and Vegetables Pvt Ltd, the company will allocate Rs 650 crore towards the construction of two new plants, with an additional Rs 100 crore earmarked for expanding capacities at existing facilities.
The major highlight of this investment is the establishment of a state-of-the-art dairy plant in Nagpur, Maharashtra, requiring an investment of approximately Rs 525 crore. This greenfield facility will boast a processing capacity of 6 lakh litres of milk per day, expandable up to 10 lakh litres daily. Positioned strategically, this plant will cater to the central and southern markets, addressing the growing demand for quality dairy products in these regions.
In addition to the dairy plant, Mother Dairy is set to commission a new fruit processing facility in Karnataka with an investment exceeding Rs 125 crore. Under the company’s esteemed Safal brand, this plant will focus on processing fruits to meet the evolving consumer preferences for fresh and nutritious products.
Both projects are slated for completion within the next two years, bolstering Mother Dairy’s operational capabilities and market presence.
Manish Bandlish further stated, “In addition to these new greenfield plants, we are also strengthening our capacities in our existing facilities with an outlay of around Rs 100 crore.” This concerted effort reflects the company’s commitment to continuous improvement and innovation across its operations.
Currently, Mother Dairy operates nine company-owned processing plants for dairy products, with a collective milk processing capacity exceeding 50 lakh litres per day. Additionally, the company engages in processing activities at third-party facilities to meet growing demand.
Founded in 1974 under the ‘Operation Flood’ initiative, Mother Dairy has evolved into a trusted subsidiary of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). With a turnover of approximately Rs 14,500 crore in the fiscal year 2022-23, the company remains steadfast in its mission to contribute to India’s journey towards self-sufficiency in milk production and promote healthy nutrition through its diverse range of products.
