Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India (MBRDI) has inaugurated the ‘Sustainability Garage’, a pioneering initiative aimed at fostering innovation in sustainable mobility. In collaboration with the Prayoga Institute of Education Research, this venture marks a significant step towards promoting eco-friendly practices in the automotive industry.
As part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) endeavors, MBRDI’s Sustainability Garage will function as a central hub for interdisciplinary research, focusing on the development of environmentally conscious materials with diverse applications that benefit society at large.
The initiative seeks to facilitate collaboration between academia and industry, creating a conducive environment for research and innovation in sustainable materials and technologies. Through joint efforts, MBRDI and the Prayoga Institute aspire to drive meaningful progress in the realm of eco-mobility.
Under the auspices of the Sustainability Garage, MBRDI has developed specialized course materials tailored for students. Over 150 students from six prestigious universities in Karnataka, including Jain University, RV Institution, JSS Science and Technology University, Vijaya College, Nrupatunga Institution, and St. Joseph’s University, will actively participate in workshops and gain hands-on experience with research equipment.
Manu Saale, Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India, underscored the organization’s commitment to sustainability, emphasizing the pivotal role of research in advancing greener practices within the automotive sector. “Researchers at MBRDI are deeply engaged in ensuring sustainability as a core priority, from analyzing materials to designing greener products or better battery chemistry,” Saale remarked, highlighting the holistic approach adopted by MBRDI towards sustainability.
H S Nagaraja, Chief Mentor of Prayoga Institute of Education Research, emphasized the importance of nurturing innovation among young minds and fostering an ecosystem conducive to research and development. “It is necessary to nurture the spirit of innovation at a young age and enable an ecosystem for young researchers,” Nagaraja stated, emphasizing the institute’s commitment to cultivating solutions-oriented learning environments.
The launch of the Sustainability Garage underscores Mercedes-Benz’s unwavering commitment to driving sustainable innovation and fostering collaboration between industry and academia to address the pressing challenges of climate change and environmental sustainability.
