German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz has achieved a milestone in India, posting record half-yearly sales of 9,262 units for the first half of 2024. This marks a 9% increase from the same period last year, driven by robust demand across categories and a steady supply of volume models.
In the first half of 2023, Mercedes-Benz had recorded its previous highest half-yearly sales with 8,528 units. The latest figures represent not only a new record but also a positive indicator of the brand’s growing footprint in the Indian luxury car market.
Strong Demand Across Segments
Mercedes-Benz India highlighted the significant demand for its SUV lineup, which accounted for 55% of the total sales in H1 2024. The popular SUV models, including the GLA, GLC, GLE, and GLS, have been top choices for customers. Meanwhile, the sedan range, featuring the A-Class, C-Class, outgoing LWB E-Class, and S-Class, continued to be preferred options among luxury sedan enthusiasts.
Growing Interest in Electric Vehicles
The company also reported a 60% growth in its battery electric vehicle (BEV) portfolio during the first half of 2024. BEVs made up 5% of the total sales volume, reflecting a rising interest in sustainable mobility solutions among Indian consumers.
Leadership Remarks
Santosh Iyer, Managing Director & CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, attributed the record-breaking sales to a combination of new and updated products, an elevated customer experience at retail outlets, and a seamless ownership experience. “Positive customer sentiments, along with the availability of volume models, have significantly boosted our best-ever H1 sales performance,” Iyer said.
Future Outlook
Looking ahead, Mercedes-Benz India is optimistic about maintaining its growth trajectory. The company plans to launch six new products in the second half of 2024, aligning with the upcoming festive season. Iyer expressed confidence in achieving double-digit growth for the entire year, as projected earlier.
