In a bid to scale new heights of economic prowess, the Maharashtra government has set a formidable target of reaching a one trillion dollar economy by the fiscal year 2027-28. Governor Ramesh Bais unveiled this ambitious vision during his address to the state legislature on Tuesday, outlining a roadmap for Maharashtra’s economic trajectory.

Governor Bais emphasized that this target aligns closely with India’s overarching goal of attaining a five trillion dollar economy. Speaking at the commencement of a day-long special session of the legislature on Maratha quota at Vidhan Bhavan in South Mumbai, he shed light on the strategic initiatives aimed at propelling Maharashtra towards this milestone.

“In the current fiscal year, we have already approved 75 projects amounting to a total investment of Rs. 61,576 crore under the Package Scheme of Incentives. These projects are expected to generate over 53,000 employment opportunities across the state,” Governor Bais stated.

Highlighting Maharashtra’s unparalleled allure for foreign investors, Governor Bais revealed that the state leads the nation in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI). With an FDI inflow of Rs. 65,500 crore, Maharashtra accounts for a significant 38.78 percent of the country’s total FDI.

Moreover, Governor Bais underscored the monumental achievements witnessed in January 2024, wherein the state government inked Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth over Rs. 3.53 lakh crore during the World Economic Forum held in Davos. These agreements are poised to usher in a new era of economic prosperity, catalyzing the creation of two lakh jobs across various sectors.

The announcement of Maharashtra’s ambitious economic target comes at a time when the state is witnessing rapid urbanization, infrastructural development, and innovation-led growth. As Maharashtra charts its course towards becoming a trillion-dollar economy, it seeks to unlock the full potential of its diverse industries, foster entrepreneurship, and create a conducive environment for sustainable growth and development.
