JSW Steel, one of India’s leading steel producers, marked a significant milestone on Saturday with the commissioning of a state-of-the-art hot strip mill (HSM) at its integrated steel plant in Vijayanagar, Karnataka. The company’s latest endeavor, boasting an impressive annual capacity of 5 million tonnes (MT), signals a major leap forward in India’s steel manufacturing capabilities.
In an official filing with the stock exchange, JSW Steel announced the successful commissioning of the hot strip mill, marking a pivotal moment in the company’s ongoing expansion efforts. The subsidiary responsible for the project, JSW Vijayanagar Metallics Ltd (JVML), spearheaded the commissioning process, culminating in the maiden dispatch of steel products from the newly inaugurated mill.
“The commissioning of the hot strip mill at Vijayanagar plant with a capacity of 5 MTPA [million tonnes per annum] is a testament to our commitment to innovation and excellence in steel manufacturing,” stated JSW Steel in its exchange filing.
Equipped with cutting-edge technology, the HSM facility is poised to revolutionize steel production with its capability to manufacture plates and coils. The facility’s journey to fruition commenced on March 17, 2024, with a ceremonial lighting-up ceremony, symbolizing the commencement of operations. Following meticulous trial runs and rigorous quality and delivery testing, the facility has now transitioned into commercial manufacturing and sales, marking the onset of a new chapter in JSW Steel’s illustrious history.
