JSW Steel, one of India’s leading steel producers, marked a significant milestone on Saturday with the commissioning of a state-of-the-art hot strip mill (HSM) at its integrated steel plant in Vijayanagar, Karnataka. The company’s latest endeavor, boasting an impressive annual capacity of 5 million tonnes (MT), signals a major leap forward in India’s steel manufacturing capabilities.

In an official filing with the stock exchange, JSW Steel announced the successful commissioning of the hot strip mill, marking a pivotal moment in the company’s ongoing expansion efforts. The subsidiary responsible for the project, JSW Vijayanagar Metallics Ltd (JVML), spearheaded the commissioning process, culminating in the maiden dispatch of steel products from the newly inaugurated mill.

“The commissioning of the hot strip mill at Vijayanagar plant with a capacity of 5 MTPA [million tonnes per annum] is a testament to our commitment to innovation and excellence in steel manufacturing,” stated JSW Steel in its exchange filing.

Equipped with cutting-edge technology, the HSM facility is poised to revolutionize steel production with its capability to manufacture plates and coils. Among its advanced features are digital reheating furnaces, evaporative cooling systems, and waste heat recovery systems, underscoring JSW Steel’s commitment to sustainability and efficiency.

The facility’s journey to fruition commenced on March 17, 2024, with a ceremonial lighting-up ceremony, symbolizing the commencement of operations. Following meticulous trial runs and rigorous quality and delivery testing, the facility has now transitioned into commercial manufacturing and sales, marking the onset of a new chapter in JSW Steel’s illustrious history.

“The successful commissioning of the hot strip mill underscores our relentless pursuit of excellence and our unwavering commitment to meeting the evolving needs of our customers,” remarked a spokesperson for JSW Steel.

The inauguration of the hot strip mill not only reaffirms JSW Steel’s position as a trailblazer in the Indian steel industry but also underscores its pivotal role in driving economic growth and industrial development in the region. With the Vijayanagar plant poised to emerge as a hub of technological innovation and manufacturing prowess, JSW Steel continues to chart a course towards a sustainable and prosperous future for India’s steel sector.

As the company embarks on this transformative journey, the commissioning of the hot strip mill serves as a testament to JSW Steel’s resilience, adaptability, and unwavering commitment to excellence in steel manufacturing.
