JSW Energy Limited, a prominent player in the Indian power sector, has successfully completed a significant fundraising initiative by selling shares to institutional investors, including the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA). The company raised a total of Rs 5,000 crore through a Qualified Institutions Placement (QIP), marking its largest primary equity raise since its listing in 2010.

In a regulatory filing on Friday, JSW Energy announced the successful conclusion of the Rs 5,000-crore QIP, aimed at bolstering its capital structure, enhancing financial flexibility, and accelerating its ambitious growth plans.

The offering witnessed robust demand from marquee global long-only investors, domestic mutual funds, and insurance companies, with the subscription rate surpassing 3.2 times. Notable participants in the QIP included renowned asset managers such as GQG, Blackrock, Nomura, Wellington, UBS, and ADIA.

Sharad Mahendra, Joint Managing Director and CEO of JSW Energy, expressed confidence in the company’s growth trajectory amidst India’s investment cycle-driven economic momentum. Mahendra highlighted the institutional investors’ unwavering confidence in JSW Energy’s positioning as a diversified energy transition platform, emphasizing its focus on expanding both generation and storage businesses, with a keen eye on opportunities in green hydrogen and its derivatives.

Mahendra stated, “We are not just witnessing the transformation of the energy sector, we are actively shaping it, setting new benchmarks for industry leadership, and aiding India’s journey towards net-zero targets by 2070.”

JSW Energy Limited, a part of the USD 23-billion JSW Group, holds a significant presence in various sectors including steel, energy, infrastructure, cement, and sports. The company operates across the power sector value chain, with diversified assets in power generation and transmission.

Established in 2000, JSW Energy commenced commercial operations with the commissioning of its first 2×130 MW thermal power plants at Vijayanagar, Karnataka. Over the years, the company has consistently expanded its power generation capacity, currently boasting a portfolio of thermal, wind, hydel, and solar power assets totaling 7,189 MW.

The successful completion of the Rs 5,000-crore share placement underscores JSW Energy’s strong market positioning and investor confidence, further reinforcing its commitment to driving sustainable growth and contributing to India’s energy transition journey.
