JSW Energy Limited marked a significant achievement on Monday with the successful commissioning of the first unit, boasting a capacity of 350 MW, at its Ind-Barath thermal power plant in Odisha. Following this commissioning, the company’s operational capacity has now reached an impressive 7,189 MW, as reported in an exchange filing by JSW Energy.

The addition of this unit is expected to play a crucial role in diversifying JSW Energy’s fuel mix, enhancing geographical spread, and optimizing offtake arrangements. The company stated that this milestone is aligned with its strategic objectives of expanding its operational capacity and strengthening its position in the power generation sector.

“JSW Energy has successfully commissioned unit-1, 350 MW at Ind-Barath 700 MW (2×350 MW) thermal power plant in Odisha,” announced the company in an official statement.

The Ind-Barath thermal power plant was acquired by JSW Energy under the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) proceedings in December 2022. The acquisition was made in accordance with the resolution plan submitted under the insolvency law in 2019, showcasing JSW Energy’s commitment to strategic expansion and asset acquisition.

JSW Energy is actively pursuing its ambitious targets for the future. The company has set a goal to reach a generation capacity of 20 GW and achieve 40 GWh of energy storage capacity by the year 2030. This forward-looking approach demonstrates JSW Energy’s commitment to playing a key role in India’s energy landscape and contributing to the nation’s sustainable energy goals.

As JSW Energy continues to make strides in enhancing its operational capacity and achieving key milestones, it reinforces its position as a leader in the power generation sector. The successful commissioning of the 350 MW unit at the Ind-Barath thermal power plant is not only a testament to the company’s technical expertise but also a significant step towards a more sustainable and diversified energy portfolio.
