In a proactive move to ensure customer safety, Hyundai Motor India is recalling 1,744 units of its electric vehicle model, the Ioniq 5. The recall addresses a potential issue with the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU), which could lead to the discharge of the 12V battery, according to information from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

The recall affects Ioniq 5 units manufactured between July 21, 2022, and April 30, 2024. The issue pertains to a potential fault in the ICCU, which is critical for managing the vehicle’s charging processes.

A Hyundai spokesperson emphasized the company’s commitment to customer safety, stating, “At Hyundai Motor India, customer safety is our top priority. The Ioniq 5 recall is a proactive step to inspect and upgrade the Integrated Charging Control Unit in the affected vehicles at no cost to the customers.” The spokesperson further assured that Hyundai’s dedicated teams will reach out to vehicle owners and guide them through the recall process, ensuring minimal inconvenience.

Owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted directly by Hyundai’s service teams to schedule the necessary inspections and repairs. This service will be provided free of charge, underscoring Hyundai’s commitment to customer care and safety.

The Ioniq 5, Hyundai’s flagship electric model, has been well-received in the Indian market, with its price starting at Rs 46.05 lakh (ex-showroom). The vehicle has been praised for its innovative design, advanced technology, and impressive range, making it a strong contender in the growing electric vehicle segment.

This recall is a reminder of the complexities involved in electric vehicle technology and the importance of regular maintenance and updates. Hyundai Motor India’s swift action in addressing the issue highlights the company’s dedication to maintaining high safety standards and customer satisfaction.

Customers are encouraged to check Hyundai’s official website or contact their nearest Hyundai dealership for more information regarding the recall and to confirm if their vehicle is among those affected. The company’s proactive measures aim to resolve the issue swiftly and efficiently, ensuring the continued reliability and performance of the Ioniq 5.
