In a bid to foster international collaboration and boost opportunities for large-scale investment, academic exchanges, and cultural interactions, Greater Noida is on the brink of solidifying a ‘Sister City’ agreement with Loudoun County, USA. The move could pave the way for a new era of cooperation between the two regions, officials announced.
A delegation from Loudoun County, Virginia, located approximately 70 km from Washington DC, engaged in discussions with representatives from Greater Noida during their visit on Tuesday. Led by Buddy Rizer, the Executive Director of the Department of Economic Development of Loudoun County, the American delegation met with N G Ravi Kumar, CEO of Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA), and Additional CEO Medha Rupam.
The discussions focused on finalizing the terms of the ‘Sister City’ pact, and both sides provided suggestions for the draft agreement. Following this, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) is expected to be crafted and approved by the government soon, according to the GNIDA statement.
Greater Noida has long aspired to establish a ‘Sister City’ or ‘Twin City’ relationship with Loudoun County, with the potential to facilitate direct exchanges in education, business, culture, biotech, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, information technology, and more.
During their visit to Greater Noida, the Loudoun County delegation received a comprehensive overview of the region, including details about the Noida International Airport, road infrastructure, metro connectivity, expressways, green spaces, prominent companies, educational institutions, and the emerging data center hub.
Buddy Rizer, expressing optimism, highlighted the potential for significant investments in areas such as data centers, educational development, and the environment. GNIDA CEO NG Ravi Kumar assured swift efforts to implement the ‘Sister City’ agreement, reinforcing Greater Noida’s commitment to fostering international collaborations.
The ‘Sister City’ agreements have proven to be an efficient tool in bolstering cultural and diplomatic ties, as well as trade and investment relations. In Uttar Pradesh, similar agreements have been signed between Varanasi and Kathmandu, Nepal; Ayodhya and Janakpur, Nepal; Agra and Chengdu, China; and Lucknow and Wenzhou, China.
As Greater Noida inches closer to sealing this transformative agreement with Loudoun County, the prospect of enhanced cooperation and shared prosperity on a global scale looms large on the horizon.
