Gold prices experienced a notable uptick, reaching Rs 66,320 per 10 grams in the national capital on Wednesday, marking a gain of Rs 70 compared to the previous day’s close, reports HDFC Securities. Similarly, silver climbed Rs 150 to Rs 76,650 per kg, reflecting a positive sentiment in the precious metals market.
The surge in gold prices can be attributed to several factors, including a weaker rupee in domestic markets and a lackluster demand scenario. Despite the subdued demand, the weaker rupee contributed to pushing gold prices higher, creating a favorable environment for investors.
In the global arena, spot gold at COMEX was observed trading at USD 2,154 per ounce, down USD 5 from the previous close. The modest decline in spot gold prices came amidst a strengthening Dollar Index and a rise in US Treasury yields. Additionally, silver experienced a marginal downturn, settling at USD 24.84 per ounce.
The movement in gold prices remained relatively subdued as investors awaited the outcome of the US Federal Reserve’s policy statement scheduled for later in the day. The tone of the statement holds significant implications for gold prices, with a hawkish stance potentially exerting downward pressure, while a dovish tone could fuel further upward momentum.
Jateen Trivedi, VP Research Analyst at LKP Securities, highlighted the importance of the Fed’s stance on interest rates, emphasizing that even in the absence of rate cuts, a dovish outlook could propel Comex gold prices towards USD 2,175.
The volatility in gold and silver prices underscores the impact of macroeconomic factors and central bank policies on precious metal markets. As investors monitor developments in global markets and await key policy announcements, the trajectory of gold and silver prices is likely to remain dynamic, with potential for further fluctuations based on evolving economic dynamics.
