In a significant development, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) initiated coordinated raids at seven locations in and around Kolkata on Thursday, unraveling a suspected scam related to irregularities in school job recruitments in West Bengal. The simultaneous raids targeted the residences and offices of individuals believed to have acted as middlemen in the alleged recruitment malpractices.
Sources from the ED revealed that these middlemen were involved in the illicit collection of funds, which were subsequently transferred to various addresses. The raids, conducted with the assistance of a substantial contingent of central forces, focused on locations in New Town and Nayabad on the eastern outskirts of Kolkata.
An ED officer, speaking to PTI, affirmed, “We are conducting raids at residences and offices used by them,” emphasizing the agency’s commitment to uncovering the extent of the suspected irregularities. The ongoing operation seeks to gather evidence and documents that may shed light on the intricate network behind the alleged scam.
Family members of the suspected middlemen have been brought in for questioning, intensifying the ED’s efforts to trace the financial transactions and individuals involved in the reported malpractices. Notably, ED officers are yet to enter one of the offices associated with a middleman, as it remains closed at present.
The investigation comes against the backdrop of growing concerns about corruption and malpractices in the recruitment processes of educational institutions, particularly schools. Authorities aim to scrutinize the alleged irregularities meticulously to ensure accountability and uphold the integrity of the recruitment procedures in West Bengal.
The ED’s involvement underscores the gravity of the situation, signaling a commitment to uncovering financial improprieties and establishing accountability in the education sector. As the raids continue, the focus remains on securing crucial evidence that will aid in bringing the perpetrators to justice and safeguarding the credibility of the education system in the state.
The developments in Kolkata draw attention to the broader challenges of maintaining transparency and fairness in recruitment processes, emphasizing the need for stringent measures to prevent such scams and protect the interests of aspiring job candidates and the education sector at large.
