In anticipation of the Republic Day Parade set to unfold at Kartavya Path, Delhi Police has announced the deployment of approximately 14,000 security personnel in and around the venue, aiming to ensure the safety of the 77,000 expected attendees. During a press conference held at the Delhi Police headquarters, Special Commissioner of Police (Security) Dependra Pathak emphasized the implementation of professional, robust, and seamless security measures across Delhi.
Pathak disclosed that the security, traffic, and district units are working in real-time coordination with central security agencies to enhance the security landscape for the Republic Day celebrations. Focused roles and responsibilities will be assigned to the security personnel, comprising commandoes, quick reaction teams, PCR vans, morchas, anti-sabotage check teams, and SWAT teams, strategically positioned at Kartavya Path and various locations throughout Delhi.
Addressing concerns related to aerial threats, Pathak assured that Delhi Police is well-prepared to handle any emergency situation. While the exact number of CCTV cameras was not disclosed, Pathak emphasized the comprehensive surveillance enabled by advanced technology, covering every corner of the venue.
Maintaining peace in “vulnerable” areas following the consecration ceremony at the Ram temple in Ayodhya, Delhi Police has implemented interstate coordination to secure border areas. Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order, Zone II) Madhup Tiwari outlined the security arrangements, revealing that the New Delhi district, where the parade is scheduled, has been divided into 28 zones, each led by DCP or additional DCP level officers.
To assist attendees, Delhi Police has established missing persons booths, helpdesks, first-aid kiosks, and facilitation booths where visitors can deposit their vehicle keys before the parade. Tiwari urged people to arrive on time and cooperate with security personnel during thorough checking procedures.
Responding to questions about shoe checking at entry points, Tiwari clarified that “frisking” would be conducted. Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) HGS Dhaliwal announced that Delhi’s borders would be sealed from 10 pm on January 25, with restrictions on the entry of heavy vehicles. Dhaliwal also advised the public to utilize park-and-ride facilities and opt for public transport due to anticipated traffic diversions in various parts of the city.
As Delhi gears up for the Republic Day Parade, the collective efforts of law enforcement and security agencies aim to create a secure environment for the grand celebration, ensuring the safety of both participants and spectators.
