The Delhi government’s transport department has reissued a tender to introduce electric scooters in the Dwarka sub-city, aiming to bolster last-mile connectivity in the area. Officials disclosed that the initiative plans to deploy thousands of electric scooters at approximately 90 strategic locations in Dwarka.
Transport Commissioner Ashish Kundra shared the development, stating, ”Bids floated for high-speed and low-speed scooters for first and last-mile connectivity with bus stops and metro stations in Dwarka sub-city.” The move aligns with the city’s commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly transportation options.
Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot informed PTI that the proposals have been invited from potential service providers for deploying both high-speed and low-speed electric scooters. He emphasized the initiative’s goal of promoting last-mile connectivity in Dwarka and revealed that this is the second attempt at floating the tender.
The decision to reissue the tender comes after the initial round faced challenges with no bidders. In response, bid conditions have been modified, and a pre-bid meeting is scheduled later this month to better understand the market dynamics.
Unlike the previous round, this time the tender focuses exclusively on electric scooters and excludes cycles. The plan entails deploying 3,000 electric vehicles across 90 high-footfall locations, including metro stations, bus depots, markets, malls, and educational institutions, in three phases.
- Phase 1: Launch with 1,500 vehicles, comprising both high-speed and low-speed e-scooters.
- Phase 2: Introduce an additional minimum of 750 vehicles.
- Phase 3: Complete the deployment of the remaining 750 vehicles, to be offered for long-term hiring or rental.
Bidders will have the flexibility to operate different electric vehicle variants based on demand. The project’s timeline outlines the implementation of Phase 1 in six months, followed by Phase 2 in four months and Phase 3 in another four months. Subsequently, a seven-year period is allocated for operations and maintenance. The estimated cost of the entire project is Rs 18 crore.
The initiative reflects the Delhi government’s commitment to sustainable urban mobility, reducing traffic congestion, and providing convenient last-mile connectivity options for residents and commuters in Dwarka.
