The Canara Visa Gold credit card is a lifetime free, no-frills card from Canara Bank that pays a flat 2 reward points on every ₹100 you spend at shops and online, with no joining or annual fee to recover. It suits salaried or self-employed people earning ₹3 lakh a year or more who already bank with Canara, want a dependable card for everyday spending and international use, and do not care about lounges or fancy perks. If you want high rewards or travel extras, this is not the card for you, but as a cheap, low-maintenance card from a public sector bank it does its job.

What you would actually earn with the Canara Visa Gold credit card
Because there are no bonus categories, the maths is simple. Take a household that puts ₹30,000 a month on the card: ₹12,000 on groceries and supermarkets, ₹8,000 on online shopping, ₹6,000 on dining and ₹4,000 on bills paid through the card.
- Monthly spend: ₹30,000, which is 300 blocks of ₹100
- Points a month: 300 × 2 = 600 points
- Points a year: 600 × 12 = 7,200 points
- Value at ₹0.25 a point: 7,200 × 0.25 = ₹1,800
- Annual fee including 18% GST: ₹0
- Net value: about ₹1,800 a year, or roughly 0.5% back
Two cautions. First, the bank awards points only on whole ₹100 blocks, so a ₹199 bill earns the same as ₹100. Second, the official page does not publish a list of excluded categories, so treat the ₹1,800 as an upper estimate until you see your first statement. At the other end, if you barely use the card and spend under ₹25,000 in a card year, you pay the ₹150 inactivity fee, which works out to ₹177 after GST.

Eligibility and documents
Canara asks for an independent gross income of at least ₹3 lakh a year for individual applicants. The card page does not spell out age limits or a minimum credit score, so ask at your branch. You can download the application form in English or Hindi from the bank’s site and submit it at a Canara branch. Expect to provide the usual KYC set: PAN, an address and identity proof such as Aadhaar or a passport, a photograph, and income proof such as recent salary slips or your latest income tax return. A secured version of this card, issued against a fixed deposit, is also listed by the bank for people who cannot meet the income bar.
How it compares
The fair comparison is with Canara’s own lineup, since all of them share the same fee structure and points scheme.
| Card | Annual fee | Income needed | Lounge access | Yearly spend to avoid inactivity fee |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Canara Visa Gold | Nil | ₹3 lakh | None | ₹25,000 |
| Canara Mastercard Standard | Nil | ₹2 lakh | None | ₹12,000 |
| Canara RuPay Platinum | Nil | ₹3 lakh | 2 domestic a quarter, up to 4 a year | ₹50,000 |
At the same income level, the RuPay Platinum gives you domestic lounge visits and UPI-friendly RuPay rails, which makes it the better pick for most people unless you specifically need Visa acceptance abroad.
Our verdict
The Canara Visa Gold credit card is a sensible free card for existing Canara customers who want wide Visa acceptance, decent insurance cover and a simple 2 points per ₹100. Skip it if you chase rewards, travel often or want lounge visits; a cashback card or Canara’s own RuPay Platinum will serve you better. You can read how we score cards in our rating methodology.
