The Adani Group, led by Chairman Gautam Adani, is set to embark on a robust investment journey with plans to infuse over Rs 1.2 lakh crore (approximately USD 14 billion) across its diverse portfolio of companies in the fiscal year commencing April 1. This ambitious investment drive aims to accelerate the growth trajectory of the conglomerate’s businesses, spanning sectors such as ports, energy, airports, commodities, cement, and media.
Sources familiar with the matter revealed that the projected capital expenditure (capex) for the fiscal year 2024-25 represents a substantial 40% increase compared to the estimated capex incurred by the portfolio in FY24. Analysts approximate that the portfolio incurred a capex of around USD 10 billion in the previous fiscal year, ending on March 31.
The envisioned investments are anticipated to pave the way for exponential profit growth across Adani Group’s diverse ventures. Notably, the group had previously outlined a visionary plan to deploy USD 100 billion in capex over the next 7-10 years, underlining its commitment to expanding and diversifying its business footprint.
A significant portion of the proposed investment will be channeled into the group’s rapidly expanding businesses, particularly in the realms of renewable energy, green hydrogen, and airports. Sources indicate that nearly 70% of the planned capex will be directed towards bolstering the group’s green portfolio, underscoring its commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly practices.
In 2023, the Adani portfolio recorded robust financial performance, achieving a USD 9.5 billion EBITDA, marking a remarkable 34.4% year-on-year increase. Moreover, the group witnessed a 4% reduction in net debt from March to September 2023. The December quarter saw Adani’s portfolio registering record EBITDA growth of 63.6%, reaching an all-time high of USD 9.5 billion (Rs 78,823 crore) in 2023.
The conglomerate’s growing cash flows, driven by strong profit growth, have positioned it for substantial investments across various sectors. With a diversified presence encompassing ports, power generation, airports, mining, renewables, gas, data centers, media, and cement, the Adani Group is poised to play a pivotal role in India’s infrastructure development and green energy transition.
Notably, the conglomerate is spearheading transformative projects such as the Navi Mumbai Airport, Ganga Expressway, and the world’s largest renewable park at Khavda in Gujarat. With a robust emphasis on green energy transition, more than 70% of the USD 100 billion investment commitment will be allocated to green businesses, including renewable power, green hydrogen, and green evacuation transmission lines.
The Adani Group’s relentless pursuit of excellence and innovation underscores its position as India’s largest infrastructure conglomerate, with a vision to shape the nation’s energy and transportation landscape for a sustainable future.
